Our Four Pillars of Focus

Helping adoptable dogs who are often overlooked because of their size, strength, age, or other factors isn’t easy—but it matters. We work to overcome these obstacles by sharing each dog’s journey through thoughtful photos and videos, always prioritizing safety, low stress, and ethics. Our goal is to show the whole dog—their personality, progress, and challenges—not just their cutest moment.

Training

Our goal is to help dogs adjust to real home life, so we’re working toward building a foster home where they can get comfortable with crate training, everyday sounds (TV, sirens), visitors, and being around other dogs. Until that’s built, we’re putting in the time at the shelter—helping dogs practice calmer kennel behavior, better leash manners, and appropriate skills around other dogs.

Community

Building a strong network of fosters, adopters, rescues, shelters, trainers, and vets takes time—and it takes community. Our goal is to grow a trusted, ethical circle that supports adoptable dogs, the shelters fighting for them, and the fosters who make the most life-saving possible—not just the dogs we can personally take on. Together, we focus on education, innovation, and leading by example to create lasting impact. Want in? Visit our Contact page to volunteer, join our immediate-need foster network, and more.

Events

We’re excited to put our experience, knowledge, and creativity to work by hosting and sponsoring more dog-friendly events with real purpose. From adoption events and fundraisers to training seminars and advocating responsible dog ownership, we’re here to build a stronger, more connected community for dogs and the people who love them.

What is DBS Rescue's Mission?

Our mission is to save adoptable shelter dogs from unnecessary euthanasia by helping them get ready for — and matched with — the right loving forever homes. We’re curating shelter dogs a second chance and building a community that supports them every step of the way by promoting responsible pet ownership and aiming to connect dog lovers through care, training, and connection. We create unique adoption opportunities — like Strong Dog Adoption Events with dog-friendly gyms — where fitness and compassion come together to help strong, athletic dogs (who can be harder to adopt) find the homes they deserve.

What type of dogs does DBS Rescue help?

We focus on shelter dogs—especially those who are strong, athletic, or harder to place in homes. Our goal is to help these dogs find families that match their energy and needs!

What does DBS stand for?

DBS stands for Different Breed Solutions, reflecting our commitment to supporting shelters and addressing the diverse challenges they—and the dogs they strive to save—face every day.

What are Strong Dog Adoption Events?

These are special adoption events we host in partnership with dog-friendly gyms. They’re designed to connect fitness enthusiasts with strong, athletic dogs who might otherwise be overlooked—combining a love of fitness and dogs to find perfect matches.

What does DBS Rescue do to support shelters??

While we await our 501(c)(3) nonprofit approval, we’re already on a mission to offer a different breed of solutions to the growing challenge of crowded shelters — by curating creative adoption opportunities and building strong community partnerships. We champion shelter dogs by: Volunteering regularly at local shelters to provide much-needed companionship and enrichment — boosting adoptability while supporting dogs’ mental and physical well-being. While we're there, we also capture and share their unique personalities online to help them shine beyond the kennel. Connecting gyms & local dog friendly businesses with local shelters to co-host Strong Dog Adoption Events — high-energy gatherings where fitness communities meet adoptable dogs, blending strong people with strong dogs for stronger second chances. Through grassroots efforts, meaningful events, and purpose-driven partnerships, we're helping shelter dogs find homes as strong and supportive as the communities behind them. And in the future, we have plans to build and operate a foster home to save dogs that are at risk of euthanasia.

How is DBS Rescue funded?

DBS Rescue operates thanks to the generous support of donations, partnerships, grants, events, and fundraising campaigns — all dedicated to fueling our rescue efforts. Down the road, we hope to offer low-cost clinics , training and grooming services to create a steady source of funding, which will help us continue our mission to save dogs, support local shelters, and build a foster home.

Does DBS Rescue adopt dogs out?

While our founders volunteer as adoption counselors at Collin County Animal Services and Sherman Animal Care & Control -- helping match the right dogs with loving adopters—we’re currently working toward opening our own foster facility to care for and place dogs directly, while still supporting shelters. In the meantime, we partner with various shelters to bring adoptable dogs to events, giving them more chances to find their forever homes.

How does DBS Rescue decide what dogs to foster?

DBS Rescue prioritizes shelter animals most at risk of euthanasia due to a range of factors—whether it's their strength, energy level, extended time in the shelter causing mental decline, or simply lack of space.

What type of dog training does DBS Rescue do?

DBS Rescue uses Transformative Transitional Training to help at-risk shelter dogs adjust to life outside the shelter. This training is tailored to each dog and focuses on helping them transition smoothly into a home environment. It can include crate training, basic kibble work, and exposure to everyday “adopted life” situations—such as household sounds, socialization with other dogs and kids, car rides, office settings, and public events. Throughout the process, we use positive reinforcement like treats, verbal praise, and affection to build trust and confidence. Our goal is to prepare each dog not just for adoption, but for long-term success in a loving home.
